Requirements

  • Mechanical components assembly experience
  • Knowledge of fabrication techniques (vacuum brazing, electron beam welding)
  • Experience in fabrication methods for high-precision mechanical components or RF structures
  • Knowledge of metallic and non-metallic materials (OFHC copper, technical ceramics, high-performance alloys)
  • Experience with 3D and 2D technical drawings
  • Ability to read/interpret technical drawings and ISO GPS tolerancing
  • Experience with CAD tools (preferably CATIA) would be an asset
  • Initial experience with quality management processes
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures and standards (metrology, NDT, BPS/WPS establishment)
  • Knowledge of mechanical fabrication for RF structures would be a strong asset
  • Familiarity with vacuum chambers and/or laser processing would be an additional advantage
  • Spoken and written English
  • Commitment to learn French
  • National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
  • Professional background in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials eng or related field
  • Master's degree with 2 to 6 years post-graduation professional experience
  • PhD with no more than 3 years post-graduation professional experience
  • Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before
  • Entry Level experience

Tasks

  • Focus on mechanical realisation and development of Triode components
  • Oversee laser micro-machining and advanced manufacturing for the Grid
  • Conduct feasibility studies for high-precision machining
  • Define and follow up on vacuum brazing and electron beam welding procedures
  • Optimise design for manufacturing based on feasibility studies
  • Create and follow QA/QC plans for metrology, roughness, and leak detection
  • Ensure R&D traceability and documentation
  • Record joining procedures with relevant services
  • Participate in defining the complete fabrication sequence
