Developing Python framework for electricity cost modeling, consolidating tools for invoice control and forecasting for a large-scale research facility. Requirements
- Experience developing data analysis/modelling tools in Python (time-series, statistical modelling, optimisation) in academic/industrial environment
- Experience handling structured datasets and quantitative analysis
- Exposure to electrical power systems, energy systems or electricity markets
- Strong asset: Exposure to machine learning for forecasting
- Asset: Familiarity with financial or contractual modelling
- Advantage: Understanding of European electricity markets
- Strong Python programming skills for data processing, modelling, visualisation
- Solid understanding of electrical power systems fundamentals
- Ability to design structured, maintainable, scalable analytical tools
- Good understanding of time-series and statistical modelling principles
- Analytical mindset, ability to translate technical/market info into quantitative insights
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively
- Spoken/written English, commitment to learn French
- Nationality of CERN Member or Associate Member State
- Professional background in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field
- Studies focused on Electrical/Computer Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Systems, Energy Data Analytics or related field
- Master's degree with 2-6 years post-graduation professional experience
- PhD with no more than 3 years post-graduation professional experience
- No prior CERN fellow or graduate contract
- Valid driving licence
Tasks
- Develop a Python-based framework for electricity cost modelling.
- Consolidate and replace existing Excel tools.
- Harmonise tools for invoice control, virtual invoicing, cost forecasting.
- Analyze electricity supply contracts.
- Translate pricing mechanisms into financial models.
- Analyze historical operational data for load forecasting.
- Identify electricity consumption patterns.
- Improve forecasting granularity to hourly resolution.
- Integrate real-time data sources into forecasting tools.
- Incorporate solar PV production data into analytical tools.
- Explore and test AI/ML for electricity load and price forecasting.
- Monitor European and French electricity markets.
- Prepare bi-monthly reports for procurement and risk assessment.
- Support ISO 50001 energy management.
- Prepare ISO 50001 documentation.
- Assist with ISO 50001 audit preparation.
- Monitor data-driven energy performance.
- Support commercial follow-up of electricity agreements.
- Support financial follow-up of electricity agreements.
- Support contractual follow-up of electricity agreements.
- Supervise team members.
