Requirements

  • Software development skills (mostly Python)
  • Comfort with Linux systems (baremetal and container environments, Kubernetes)
  • Demonstrated Git experience
  • Demonstrated teamwork experience
  • Python programming (required) or Go programming (bonus)
  • Proficiency in Web frameworks (e.g., Flask) and REST API design
  • Linux system administration skills
  • Containers and K8s (required) or Helm charts (bonus)
  • Spoken and written English
  • Commitment to learn French
  • Nationality of CERN Member or Associate Member State
  • Professional background: MSc or PhD in Computing (or related field)
  • Master's degree with 2 to 6 years post-graduation experience OR PhD with no more than 3 years post-graduation experience
  • No prior CERN fellow or graduate contract

Tasks

  • Develop Python software for Rucio and CERN IT services
  • Integrate and interface with distributed storage systems
  • Operate Linux-based machines and Kubernetes clusters
  • Operate large-scale data management systems
  • Contribute to infrastructure operations
  • Handle incident response
  • Provide user support
  • Develop authentication mechanisms for Open Science data export
  • Integrate Rucio with Open Data Portals
  • Design new APIs
  • Contribute to the upstream Rucio project
