Database Platform Engineer(m/w/x)
Administering MySQL, PostgreSQL, and InfluxDB instances for scientific research. Experience with SQL, Unix shell, and Python required. 30 days paid leave, CERN health insurance.
Requirements
- Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or TimescaleDB
- Experience with SQL, Unix shell script, and Python
- Knowledge of Linux operating system
- Knowledge of service administration and configuration tools like Puppet
- Experience monitoring system health and performance
- Experience with Rundeck automation or orchestration tools
- Familiarity with large-scale, high-availability database environments
- Proficiency with Angular and Flask
- Knowledge of containerisation/container orchestration
- Knowledge of the ELK stack
- Spoken and written English, commitment to learn French
- National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
- Maximum two years post-graduation experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
- Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract
- University degree required
- PhD not eligible
Tasks
- Administer MySQL, PostgreSQL, and InfluxDB instances
- Contribute to the DBOD service user interface evolution
- Participate in service configuration and architecture design
- Manage database upgrades and patches
- Handle hardware migrations
- Monitor system health and performance
- Ensure high performance, availability, and security
- Assist and advise users on DBOD service
- Discuss and implement service enhancements
- Provide technical mentorship and cross-training
- Perform operations tasks and software development
- Work with open-source software and IT infrastructure
- Gain experience with AlmaLinux 9, OpenStack, Puppet, Prometheus, GitLab
