Corporate Credit Risk Specialist(m/w/x)
Assessing counterparty financial strength and preparing internal ratings for Credit Committees. Strong working knowledge of German Commercial Code (HGB) and local accounting standards required. Work with a global portfolio at a financial institution with 80M+ customers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related field
- Relevant corporate credit risk experience
- Experience in large international banks; valued exposure to specialized credit institutions or boutiques
- Solid understanding of corporate credit risk processes, internal rating frameworks, and credit governance
- Strong working knowledge of German Commercial Code (HGB), local accounting standards, and financial statement interpretation
- Highly desirable prior experience in German banking Credit function, local regulatory frameworks, internal rating methodologies, and credit governance
- Strong ability to interpret and articulate financial statements
- Proven capability to assess corporate business models and sector behavior across economic/credit cycles
- Sound analytical judgment, independent credit opinions, and confidence to challenge assumptions
- Business-oriented mindset with focus on risk identification and mitigation
- Familiarity with internal credit systems and tools in banking organizations
- German C1 or higher proficiency
- Fluent and mandatory English proficiency
- Highly desirable Spanish proficiency
- Clear and structured written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to present complex credit topics concisely to senior audiences
- Strong organizational skills and capacity to manage multiple priorities under time pressure
- Proactive, ethical, and accountable approach to risk management
- Collaborative mindset and intellectual curiosity
Tasks
- Analyze corporate credit risk considering business models, sector characteristics, and economic cycles.
- Assess corporate counterparty financial strength and credit profiles.
- Prepare internal credit ratings, opinions, and risk assessments.
- Maintain internal credit ratings, opinions, and risk assessments.
- Prepare credit proposals and recommendations for Credit Committees.
- Present credit analyses and risk views to stakeholders.
- Defend credit analyses and risk views to stakeholders.
- Manage and monitor a corporate client portfolio.
- Identify emerging risks within the portfolio.
- Propose appropriate risk mitigation measures.
- Ensure compliance with BBVA risk appetite, policies, and standards.
- Collaborate with global Risk units for credit decision-making.
