# Thesis on the Development of a process monitoring system for laser beam welding (m/w/d)
In cooperation with the Chair of Laser Technology at RWTH Aachen University (LLT), the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, Europe's leading center for contract research and development in the field of laser technology, offers the opportunity for a thesis in the "Joining and Separating" department.
Cylindrical battery cells are widely used in many applications due to their standardized design, high stability and good heat dissipation. Laser beam welding is preferred for electrical interconnection in module construction, as it enables high precision and short cycle times. However, joining different materials such as aluminum and steel poses process-related challenges - particularly due to the formation of brittle intermetallic phases.
The aim of this work is to analyze the measurement data recorded with a process monitoring system in order to identify possible welding irregularities and to evaluate changes in the formation of intermetallic phases.
