**We are currently looking for a highly motivated **Graduand (M/F/D)** for a **Master Thesis** to join our **Advanced Technology** team in Meiningen.**
**Principle duties and essential functions**
You will conduct research on “Design and Implementation of a Data Analytics Pipeline for Predictive Maintenance of Optical Fiber Amplifiers”.
Optical fiber amplifiers are a key component in today's long-haul optical transmission links. With the failure of such an amplifier, the transmission link is interrupted which results in high-financial loss of income to the network operator. Predictive maintenance comprises advanced monitoring techniques to detect anomalous behavior at an early stage, predict the remaining useful lifetime and diagnose the cause of the fault. This leads to improved planning and execution of maintenance measures. This thesis aims to address the challenges for developing a data analytics pipeline that can handle live telemetry data and analyze it with a predictive maintenance framework. This will significantly improve the monitoring of optical transmission links and ensure robust and resilient network operation.
**Tasks**
* **Literature Review**: Conduct an extensive review of existing designs and implementations of data analytics pipelines. This will provide a solid foundation for understanding the landscape and identifying gaps that the thesis aims to address.
* **Testbed Setup and Installation**: Establish a testbed environment that streams live telemetry data of optical fiber amplifiers. This will involve configuring optical networking components, and streaming and storing mechanisms for time series data.
* **Development of Data Analytics Pipeline**: Design and develop a data analytics pipeline, especially for handling and analyzation of telemetry data with a predictive maintenance framework.
* **Test and Evaluation of Effectiveness**: Implement the developed data analytics pipeline in the testbed environment and conduct rigorous testing to evaluate their effectiveness and robustness. This will include performance metrics, security assessments, and resilience testing against potential threats.
* **Documentation and Defense**: Compile comprehensive documentation of the research process, methodologies, development, testing procedures, and findings and include this in the master thesis.
