You will bridge the gap between chemical engineering and AI by developing ML-based kinetic models, ultimately comparing your findings against conventional methods to complete your thesis.

Requirements

  • Studies in Data Science, Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering or comparable field
  • Initial experience in machine learning and neural networks
  • Expertise in programming and MATLAB or comparable language
  • Advantageous experience with different optimisation algorithms
  • Independent work planning, proactivity, and time management
  • Teamwork skills and goal orientation in interdisciplinary environments
  • Confident presentation skills and ability to convince others
  • Very good English skills

Tasks

  • Research methanol synthesis and reactor modelling fundamentals
  • Learn the company's MATLAB-based simulation platform
  • Develop concepts for embedding ML models into the platform
  • Select approaches using simplified fitting campaigns
  • Fit all available measurement data using selected models
  • Compare conventional and ML-based model results
  • Analyze strengths and weaknesses of both modeling approaches
  • Present research results to the team
  • Summarize all findings in a formal thesis
