Technical Artist(m/w/x)
Optimizing Unreal Engine 5 art pipelines and shaders for asymmetrical multiplayer FPS. Shipped Unreal Engine game experience required. Unlimited flexible time off, gym membership.
Requirements
- Shipped real games and understand asset pipelines
- Minimum 3 years game development experience, focus on technical art
- Performance profiling and optimization experience with Unreal Insights, GPU Visualizer
- Strong understanding of PBR, real-time rendering limitations, cross-platform optimization
- Shipped at least 1 Unreal Engine game as Technical Artist
- Strong proficiency in Unreal Engine 5 (Material Editor, Blueprint, pipelines, optimization)
- Familiarity with procedural tools (Houdini, PCG)
- Scripting or tool development experience in Python, MEL, or comparable
- Experience with version control systems (Perforce, Git, SVN)
- Portfolio or demo reel demonstrating shipped work and contributions
- Strong communication across technical and non-technical disciplines
- Self-directed and proactive problem solver
- Collaborative and knowledge sharing attitude
- High level of professional English proficiency (written and verbal)
- Located in or near Berlin, Germany
- Understanding of Nanite Meshes and Lumen Lighting System workflows
- Proficiency with UE5 World Partition and large world workflows
- Proficiency in Substance Painter and/or Substance Designer
- Solid experience with DCC tools (Maya, Blender, 3ds Max), including rigging, skinning, scripting
- Experience with Niagara VFX system in Unreal Engine
- Knowledge of HLSL/GLSL shader programming
- Experience working with outsourced or distributed international art teams
- Experience on live service titles or post-launch content pipelines
- Will request certificate of conduct/background check
Tasks
- Design and maintain efficient art pipelines
- Support artists from concept to final integration
- Develop and maintain automation tools and scripts
- Define and enforce art standards and best practices
- Optimize materials, shaders, and visual effects in Unreal Engine 5
- Manage asset integration for characters, environments, VFX, and UI
- Optimize polygon budgets, texture resolution, LODs, and draw calls
- Profile and debug performance issues with Unreal Insights
- Implement and maintain material libraries and shader networks
- Support procedural content workflows with PCG or Houdini
- Provide technical guidance and training to the art team
- Partner with engineers to validate asset creation practices
- Monitor performance metrics and align art and tech requirements
- Review and validate outsourced and third-party assets
- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing
