Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in quantitative energy trading, BESS optimisation, or algorithmic trading in European power markets
  • Understanding of math and commercial logic in energy trading
  • Deep expertise in optimisation methods (LP/MIP, stochastic dynamic programming, rolling intrinsic or SDDP)
  • Solid Python skills
  • Strong quantitative mindset
  • Financial modelling skills
  • Risk assessment skills
  • Data-driven decision making
  • Familiarity with European market infrastructure (EPEX SPOT, XBID, TSO reserve market platforms)
  • Familiarity with data APIs
  • Track record of leading or mentoring a quant or dev team
  • Ability to create clarity and enable autonomy
  • High technical bar without micromanaging
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex models to traders
  • Ability to explain P&L attribution to senior management
  • Fluent English
  • Experience with SDDP or similar scenario-tree approaches for multi-period storage valuation
  • Background in Monte Carlo simulation for extrinsic value modelling or DA-SWAP pricing on BESS assets
  • Exposure to multiple European market zones (DE/AT, FR, BE, SE, BG or similar)
  • Knowledge of REMIT / REMIT-II compliance requirements
  • Experience with ETRM systems or building proprietary trading infrastructure

Tasks

  • Design and own algorithmic optimization stack
  • Optimize multi-market dispatch and stochastic bidding strategies
  • Lead real-time decision logic for BESS assets
  • Manage a team of 7 Quant Traders, Analysts, and Data Scientists
  • Set team direction and prioritize roadmap
  • Run code reviews and build strong delivery culture
  • Drive research-to-production pipeline
  • Conduct hypothesis and backtesting
  • Validate and deploy models with Tech
  • Monitor continuous performance
  • Advance automation with Platform teams
  • Build and maintain BESS valuation models
  • Incorporate physical constraints and multi-market opportunity costs
  • Act as technical interface between quant models and trading strategy
  • Translate trader intuition into formal optimization problems
  • Communicate model outputs clearly
  • Serve as key sparring partner for senior leadership
  • Advise on algorithm performance and market structure changes
  • Develop quantitative strategy
