Requirements

  • University degree (master's or equivalent) or doctorate in environmental sciences, computer science, engineering, or related fields
  • In-depth knowledge of life cycle assessment (ISO 14040/44 compliant)
  • Technical understanding of IT infrastructures and data centers
  • Project management and interdisciplinary communication experience
  • Ability to communicate complex technical content understandably
  • Interest in sustainability, digitalization, and cross-disciplinary research
  • Very good German and English skills

Tasks

  • Collaborate on strategic projects for decarbonization and energy efficiency
  • Work in an interdisciplinary team with national and international partners
  • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive approach for life cycle analysis of data center infrastructures
  • Apply life cycle assessment (LCA) methods to existing and planned HPC and big data storage systems
  • Develop a digital twin for data center infrastructures
  • Derive measures for decarbonization and efficiency improvement
  • Support the ‘District Data Center’ project with a focus on ecological aspects
