Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related engineering discipline
  • Ph.D. in relevant field strongly preferred
  • Professional experience in electrochemical processes, surface treatments, or materials characterization
  • Connector industry experience highly desirable
  • Deep understanding of electroplating fundamentals
  • Understanding of precious metal deposition kinetics and mechanisms
  • Proficiency with surface analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of contact physics
  • Knowledge of corrosion science
  • Knowledge of metallurgy
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards for plating and testing
  • Experience with statistical analysis

Tasks

  • Lead research and development of precious metal electrodeposition processes
  • Investigate deposition mechanisms and kinetics
  • Develop selective plating processes
  • Support optimization of reel-to-reel plating operations
  • Support optimization of loose-piece plating operations
  • Conduct surface analysis using XRF
  • Conduct surface analysis using SEM
  • Conduct surface analysis using EDS
  • Conduct surface analysis using advanced characterization techniques
  • Analyze plating thickness
  • Analyze plating porosity
  • Analyze plating composition
  • Analyze microstructure of contact finishes
  • Perform failure analysis on plated connector components
  • Perform root cause investigations on plated connector components
  • Develop analytical methods for quality control
  • Develop analytical methods for process optimization
  • Support new product introduction with plating expertise
  • Support new product introduction with contact finish selection
  • Develop and execute Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Evaluate performance of advanced plating layers
  • Provide technical leadership through documentation
  • Optimize precious metal usage
  • Initiate cost reduction initiatives
  • Qualify suppliers
  • Audit suppliers
