Requirements

  • PhD in soil science or terrestrial ecology with focus on physical/biological process modelling
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, ideally C++
  • Experience in modelling natural complex systems based on partial differential equations
  • Knowledge of agriculture, especially crop production (advantageous)
  • Appropriate publication record in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Willingness to present research in leading scientific conferences
  • Well-developed communication skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills

Tasks

  • Develop the BODIUM soil model for agricultural and scientific applications
  • Lead and coordinate model development with internal and external partners
  • Expand and maintain BODIUM as a community model
  • Participate in the UFZ research program, integrating soil models with water, nutrient flux, and vegetation models
  • Publish research findings in high-impact international journals
  • Contribute to securing external research funding
  • Apply for external funding to support research activities
