Requirements
- Master's degree in relevant scientific discipline
- Familiarity with mountain-related scientific methods
- Strong communication and academic writing skills
- Independent and collaborative teamwork skills
- Willingness to travel to high altitudes
- One year relevant experience (asset)
- Interest in pursuing a PhD (asset)
- Research experience in mountain ecosystems
- Experience in scientific project support
- Experience with GIS and remote sensing
- Experience with R, Python, or similar
- Field research experience in natural resources
- Knowledge of South Asian environmental systems
- Fluency in English
- Knowledge of Nepali, Hindi, or local language
- Knowledge of German or other languages
Tasks
- Develop research questions aligned with project objectives
- Review literature on climate and forest dynamics
- Analyze forest fires and mountain disaster risks
- Design and implement mixed-methods research
- Analyze climate data and remote sensing imagery
- Perform GIS assessments and community-level surveys
- Examine climate variability and natural hazard interactions
- Assess community vulnerability using PRA tools
- Conduct interviews and focus group discussions
- Compile, clean, and maintain project datasets
- Ensure data integrity and ethical information handling
- Comply with project data management plans
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals
- Write scientific reports and policy briefs
- Present results at conferences and workshops
- Create outreach materials and digital resources
- Prepare periodic project activity summaries
- Report on progress, challenges, and lessons learned
- Coordinate with partners in Nepal, India, and Germany
- Participate in regular project partner meetings
- Plan and execute scheduled fieldwork activities
- Perform other duties assigned by your supervisor
