Postdoctoral Researcher - Hydrological Process Analysis and Modelling for Water Security Solutions(m/w/x)
Modelling regional water management impacts across the Elbe basin using AI and time series data. Strong programming skills in R or Python required. Flexible working hours, family office support.
Requirements
- University degree (Master’s, Diploma, Doctorate) in environmental/water science or related field
- Strong knowledge of statistical, data-driven analysis of hydro-meteorological processes
- Experience applying/developing hydrological concepts and modelling approaches, including AI
- Excellent programming skills (R, Python, Fortran preferred)
- Strong interest in integrated water resources management and stakeholder needs
- Teamwork, excellent communication, and scientific writing skills
- Very good English command; German advantageous
- Motivation to contribute to long-term water safety initiative
Tasks
- Analyse local effects of water management measures using data-mining and AI techniques
- Conceptualize effects for integration into existing hydrological model setups
- Model regional impact of water management measures across the Elbe basin
- Quantify local effects using time series data on climatic indicators, streamflow, and groundwater dynamics
- Develop solutions for future water safety and security in the Elbe basin
- Collaborate with colleagues from various Helmholtz Centres and stakeholders
- Contribute to high-quality scientific publications
- Present research at conferences, workshops, and meetings
- Build and maintain a network with academic and stakeholder partners
