Requirements
- Master's degree in Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Physical Geography, Computational Sciences, or related discipline
- Experience with general-purpose or specialized programming languages
- Knowledge of extreme events, hydrology, and climate
- Beneficial experience in training and evaluating machine learning models
- Beneficial experience with HPCs or Linux systems (not prerequisite)
- Collaboration capability in multidisciplinary, international team
- Excellent written and spoken English knowledge
Tasks
- Train machine learning models with in situ and remote sensing data.
- Develop a European soil temperature dataset.
- Analyze soil hot extremes and drivers in forests and grasslands using the dataset.
- Assess soil hot extremes' contribution to vegetation declines in Germany and Europe.
