Requirements
- Master’s degree in geophysics, physics or related discipline
- Eagerness for independent research
- Excellent problem analysis and solution development skills
- Proficiency in computer based data analysis (time series analysis)
- Programming proficiency (preferably Python)
- Comfortable with field work
- Handling delicate measuring equipment
- Driver’s license
- Experience in seismology, atmospheric dynamics, or elasticity theory
- Open minded and active personality
- Good command of English language
- Knowledge of German language
Tasks
- Deploy and operate autonomous barometers near Black Forest Observatory
- Derive parametric descriptions of time-varying lateral air-pressure gradients
- Develop models of atmospheric pressure loading on Earth's crust
- Create deterministic and quantitative descriptions for signal correction
- Conceptualize and collect data for the large-N array
- Develop a coupling model for atmospheric pressure and crust deformation
- Apply correction procedures to mitigate local background disturbances
- Conduct measurements at partner sites
- Supervise test installations of rotation sensors at BFO
- Present progress at project meetings and international conferences
- Publish scientific papers on research findings
- Assist in lectures and field courses for Geophysics programs
- Collaborate with working groups at BFO and Geophysical Institute
- Work under supervision of Prof. Dr. Andreas Rietbrock, Dr. Thomas Forbriger, and external RING member
