Requirements

  • M.Sc. degree in environmental sciences, geography, ecology, climate science, environmental engineering, urban planning, or related fields
  • Interest in urban sustainability, biodiversity, and climate adaptation
  • Experience with spatial data analysis (e.g. GIS)
  • Programming skills (e.g. Python or R) or modelling skills
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research
  • Interest in quantitative methods and decision-support approaches
  • Fluency in English
  • Motivation for international and interdisciplinary research environment
  • Willingness for extended research period (one year) at University of Melbourne

Tasks

  • Explore biodiversity assessment in urban areas using conservation frameworks
  • Analyze spatial patterns of urban green infrastructure and ecological traits
  • Investigate urban green configurations' impact on climate and heat stress
  • Compare design strategies for blue-green infrastructure
  • Identify trade-offs and synergies between biodiversity and climate adaptation
  • Contribute to multi-objective optimization approaches for urban land-use
  • Develop ideas for analysis, publications, and integration in C4LaNd programme
  • Collaborate with the University of Melbourne for a one-year research stay
  • Participate in joint supervision framework for a cotutelle PhD degree
