Payroll Specialist(m/w/x)
End-to-end German payroll processing for an economics consultancy. German payroll regulations and HR systems experience required. 28 days annual leave, option to purchase 10 additional days.
Requirements
- German payroll management and regulations knowledge
- HR systems experience (e.g., Workday)
- Payroll systems experience and software adaptability
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Handling confidential information with discretion
- Multi-country payroll support experience
- Payroll transition experience (outsourced to in-house)
- Familiarity with payroll systems (DATEV, ADP, SD Worx)
- Professional services environment experience
Tasks
- Manage end-to-end German payroll process
- Collate and validate payroll inputs
- Process payroll for joiners, leavers, salary changes, bonuses, and absences
- Review payroll outputs for accuracy
- Ensure gross-to-net calculations, tax, and social security deductions are correct
- Comply with German payroll legislation and statutory reporting
- Serve as key contact for external payroll providers, tax advisors, and local authorities
- Support implementation of in-house payroll system
- Design, test, and validate payroll processes
- Maintain accurate payroll records
- Ensure documentation is audit-ready
- Support other payrolls as needed (e.g., UK, Europe)
- Assist with payroll inputs, reconciliations, and payments
- Provide cover during peak periods or team absences
- Respond to payroll-related employee queries
- Submit German payroll filings on time
- Update ELStAM and social security reports
- Prepare documentation for internal and external audits
- Respond to audit queries
- Ensure payroll processes are compliant and well-documented
- Identify and implement process improvements
- Enhance data accuracy
- Collaborate with Finance, IT, and external providers
- Administer employee benefits (e.g., pensions, health insurance)
- Provide timely, professional responses to payroll queries
- Handle sensitive payroll data confidentially
- Participate in payroll-related projects
- Support transition to in-house German payroll
