Mechanical Engineer (ATLAS ITk Pixel)(m/w/x)
Assembly and quality control of ATLAS ITk Pixel detector components at CERN. Familiarity with precision mechanical design and CAD software required. 30 days paid leave, CERN health insurance, and family allowances.
Requirements
- Familiarity with precision mechanical components and systems design
- Initial CAD software experience for 3D modelling (ideally CATIA V5)
- Producing 2D technical drawings with ISO standards
- Hands-on assembly of prototypes
- Hands-on thermal and/or mechanical testing of prototypes
- Knowledge of LabVIEW (asset)
- Operation of temperature forcing systems (asset)
- Operation of CO2 cooling plants (asset)
- Experience with two-phase cooling systems (advantage)
- "Can-do" attitude
- Willingness to directly assemble detector components
- Willingness to directly test detector components
- Rigorous and organised approach to work
- Delivering high-quality results from the outset
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Flexible approach to work
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities
- Good understanding of tracking detector mechanics (asset)
- Practical knowledge of adhesive bonding (advantageous)
- Practical knowledge of composite materials (advantageous)
- Spoken and written English
- Commitment to learn French
- National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
- Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before
- University degree
Tasks
- Contribute to assembly and quality control of detector components
- Participate in conception and detailed design of detector components
- Develop and document assembly and testing procedures
- Manage procurement of materials and detector components
- Conduct hands-on production and quality control
- Implement quality assurance procedures and test benches
- Engineer precision tooling for assembly and installation
- Test and install detector components and sub-assemblies
- Document and implement repair procedures
