Master's thesis Novel Cell Concepts for AEM and Alkaline Water Electrolysis(m/w/x)
Designing and modeling novel electrolyzer cells for alkaline water electrolysis. Experience with electrode fabrication or MEA assembly required. Flexible working hours, mobile and on-site work.
Requirements
- Master's studies in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, or related discipline
- Confidence with CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or Fusion 360) for cell and component design
- Solid background in electrochemistry and/or heterogeneous catalysis
- Basic knowledge of materials characterization techniques (SEM, XRD, XPS, contact angle, porosimetry)
- Prior experience with electrode fabrication, MEA assembly, or fuel cell/electrolyzer testing
- Prior experience with Python, Origin, or similar tools for data analysis and visualization
- Hands-on mindset and genuine interest in experimental laboratory work
Tasks
- Design and model novel electrolyzer cell
- Develop flow fields, sealing concepts, and cell assembly
- Coat and functionalize porous transport layers (PTLs)
- Characterize PTLs, electrodes, and full cell assemblies
- Operate and benchmark electrolyzer under varying conditions
- Analyze and document experimental data
- Present results in internal and scientific meetings
