Requirements
- Currently enrolled student in law, international relations, political science, or related field
- Eligible for mandatory internship (Pflichtpraktikum)
- Background or strong interest in human rights, LGBT rights
- Strong writing and research skills
- Full professional proficiency in English
- Advanced proficiency in Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, Georgian, and/or Armenian
- Other language skills desirable
- Computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
- Precise attention to detail
- Positive attitude
- Proactive approach
- Good judgment
- Valid work authorization in Germany for internship duration
Tasks
- Conduct short and long-term desk research on human rights law and policy
- Monitor and summarize LGBT rights developments in the ECA region
- Attend virtual and in-person conferences and events
- Join meetings and interviews with civil society organizations and other actors
- Participate in remote interviews with victims or witnesses of human rights violations
- Attend internal strategy meetings to shape HRW's research and advocacy
- Collaborate on new LGBT rights issues or national contexts
- Complete other related assignments as they arise
- Attend internal staff meetings, external lectures, and trainings
- Participate in professional development workshops and special events
- Network with other HRW interns, volunteers, and employees
Education
- Currently in higher education
