Junior PIC Characterization Engineer(m/w/x)
Optical and electrical characterization of packaged TFLN PICs using tunable lasers and oscilloscopes. Foundational knowledge of integrated photonic components required. Structured guidance and room to grow fast.
Requirements
- B.Sc. or vocational training in optoelectronics, telecommunications, physics, electrical engineering with photonics specialization, or related field
- Hands-on experience with optical fiber and laser handling in lab environment
- Experience with alignment, coupling, and safe laser operation
- Experience gained through internship, thesis, lab course, or academic project
- Foundational knowledge of integrated photonic components and operating principles
- Ability to interpret characterisation results in context
- Solid grounding in lab documentation practice
- Understanding of measurement reproducibility
- Very good English (written and spoken)
- Very good German with working English
- Hands-on experience with VNAs, oscilloscopes, OSAs, RF probes, and tunable lasers
- Python programming for measurement automation, data acquisition, or analysis
- Working knowledge of RF measurement principles
- Knowledge of instrument control frameworks (SCPI, VISA, GPIB, or equivalent)
- German proficiency (if English is primary language)
- Prior exposure to TFLN photonics
Tasks
- Characterize packaged TFLN PICs optically and electrically
- Use tunable lasers, OSAs, VNAs, RF probes, and high-speed oscilloscopes
- Execute advanced lab test procedures for accuracy and repeatability
- Document measurement data, test conditions, and results
- Maintain lab equipment readiness and calibration
- Handle optical fibre, laser sources, and RF instrumentation safely
- Collaborate with senior PIC DC experts and cross-functional teams
- Align on test priorities and flag anomalies
- Support continuous improvement of characterization workflows
- Deliver characterization results within agreed lead times
