Requirements

  • Enrollment in Master's program (Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related)
  • Theoretical background in electric drives and motor control
  • Familiarity with AC motor control techniques (field-oriented, direct torque control)
  • Hands-on experience with SynRM or PMSM motors (desirable)
  • Practical experience with MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, or Python for real-time control
  • Experience with LabView or cRIO controllers (plus)
  • Fundamental understanding of power electronics (inverter operation, PWM, current sensing)
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory setups (electrical machines, power electronics, drive systems)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to present technical results clearly (written and spoken English)

Tasks

  • Conduct literature review on dynamic control methods
  • Identify advantages and disadvantages of control methods
  • Select and prioritize control methods for implementation
  • Optimize and benchmark selected control methods through simulation
  • Implement control methods using cRIO hardware and LabView
  • Review and update existing test platform hardware
  • Design test set-up for validating dynamic drive controls
  • Contribute creative ideas to enhance control concepts
  • Document work and present findings to ABB stakeholders
