Global Lead Buyer Mechanics(m/w/x)
Global purchasing of mechanical components for medical devices, driving cost efficiency and strategic contract negotiation. 5+ years of strategic purchasing experience in high-tech manufacturing required. Focus on international supply chain management and leadership of cross-site project teams.
Requirements
- 4-year university degree (e.g. master’s in business administration, industrial engineering, logistics, commerce, or comparable)
- 5+ years professional experience in strategic purchasing across different product groups, ideally in technologically sophisticated/regulated environment (e.g. medical devices, automotive, aerospace, high-tech manufacturing)
- Strategic mindset and proven experience in strategy development and implementation in procurement or category management
- Demonstrated leadership experience (e.g. leading task forces or smaller international, cross-site project teams)
- Proven negotiation strength and assertiveness, strong track record in demanding, international purchasing and contract negotiations
- Extensive experience in supplier management, escalation management, contract negotiations and drafting
- Business fluent English and very good German (min. C level) for confident communication and presentations
- Strong IT skills: SAP MM, very good Excel, solid experience with reporting tools
- Pronounced technical interest and ability to understand mechanical products and production contexts
- Excellent communication skills, team orientation, ability to build trustful relationships
- High stress resilience, positive mindset, humor, initiative, creativity, strong prioritization and time-management skills
- Willingness to travel globally and work predominantly on-site in Oberkochen (with regular visits to Jena)
Tasks
- Secure supply of mechanical components for medical devices
- Drive cost efficiency and continuous improvement
- Negotiate strategic contracts in a global, high-tech environment
- Manage international purchasing for mechanical components
- Ensure uninterrupted global supply for assigned product groups
- Develop and manage supplier relationships
- Conduct performance reviews, risk management, and supplier development
- Lead complex contract negotiations and drafting
- Optimize purchase, delivery, and service contracts
- Lead cross-functional and international teams
- Resolve supply issues and implement preventive measures
- Contribute to and implement category strategies
- Translate strategies into concrete projects and actions
- Analyze prices, cost structures, and delivery performance
- Identify and mitigate risks
- Derive specific optimization measures
- Prepare and present decision papers and status reports
- Participate in management boards and steering committees
- Represent ZEISS in supplier meetings and negotiations
- Travel nationally and internationally for business
- Work with SAP MM, MS Excel, and reporting tools
- Maintain relevant master data
- Support KPI reporting and process optimization
- Mentor trainees, students, and apprentices
- Foster a strong, collaborative team culture
