Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, transportation, economics, environmental science, public policy, or related field
- Familiarity with maritime shipping sector environmental and energy challenges
- Exceptional quantitative, analytical, and research skills
- Ability to understand technical information and draw policy conclusions
- Ability to communicate recommendations to decision-makers
- Big data analysis or econometric modeling experience (preferred)
- Advanced MS Office proficiency, especially Excel
- Strong programming experience in Python or similar (preferred)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
- Fluency in English
- Fluency in German (asset)
- Intellectual curiosity
- Self-directed work ethic
- Ability to work effectively with people globally
- Ability to connect research to policy
- Ability to translate technical information to stakeholders
Tasks
- Conduct research on EU and IMO decarbonization goals and policies
- Analyze energy use and emissions from domestic and international shipping
- Compare policy alternatives for decarbonizing maritime shipping
- Develop recommendations to reduce air pollution and decarbonize shipping
- Write clear and concise publications for technical and non-technical audiences
- Present research findings internally and externally
- Organize outreach activities like briefings, meetings, and workshops
- Collaborate with government entities and NGOs
- Review colleagues’ and consultants’ work on program projects
- Lead research projects on maritime decarbonization (Researcher level)
- Present findings to EU and IMO decision-makers (Researcher level)
