Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Logistics, Business, or related field
- Minimum 8–10 years in customs compliance, trade regulations, and export control classification
- At least 3 years focused on European military and strategic goods regulations
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements, including EU dual-use and customs rules
- Proactive approach to compliance and continuous improvement
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- High ethical standards and confidentiality
- Extensive knowledge of EU export control frameworks, including dual-use and military goods regulations
- Extensive knowledge of trade agreements and Incoterms
- Proven ability to interact with government agencies and regulatory bodies
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong communication skills
- Strong leadership skills
- Bachelor's degree in law, International Trade, or related field
- Advanced degree preferred
- Fluency in English
- Additional European languages a plus (e.g., German, French, Spanish, Dutch)
- Experience in the semiconductor sector
- Experience in the aerospace sector
- Experience in the defense sectors
- Familiarity with compliance software (SAP GTS, Descartes, Qlikview) preferred
- Familiarity with U.S. re-export controls (ITAR, EAR) and their application within Europe
- Prior engagement with AEO (Authorized Economic Operator) programs
- Prior engagement with Known Consignor programs
- Experience with compliance automation tools
- Experience with ERP integration
- International Trade and Customs knowledge
- AEO knowledge
Tasks
- Lead regional compliance program in Germany
- Ensure compliance with EU regulations on military and strategic goods
- Centralize and optimize customs and export control operations in Ireland
- Develop and improve compliance programs for export controls, Incoterms, valuation, origin, and tariff codes
- Classify products using European HTS codes and ECCN
- Conduct product reviews for ECCN and HTS codes
- Collaborate with engineering, product management, and legal teams
- Monitor regulatory changes and update internal processes
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through strategic classification
- Manage Free Trade Agreements to optimize duty savings
- Liaise with customs authorities, brokers, and freight forwarders
- Maintain accurate records of customs filings and compliance documentation
- Submit Binding Tariff Information requests
- Advise on licensing requirements for controlled goods and technologies
- Screen for embargoed destinations and end-users
- Deliver training and guidance through documented processes, webinars, and workshops
- Support internal and external audits of ECCN and HTS assignments
- Lead AEO programs and large case audits
- Support other compliance initiatives
- Conduct internal audits of customs processes and documentation
- Identify discrepancies and potential violations
- Prepare detailed audit reports with findings and corrective action plans
- Assess duties, taxes, and fees for accuracy and compliance
- Provide guidance and training on customs, export control, and audit requirements
- Support investigations into non-compliance
- Implement corrective measures
