Scientific Training Officer (maternity cover)(m/w/x)
Planning and facilitating wet lab and computer training practicals for life sciences research. MSc or PhD in molecular life sciences or equivalent experience required. 30 days annual leave, overtime pay.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in molecular life sciences or technical degree with relevant experience
- Proficiency in wet lab molecular biology techniques, especially cell culture
- Basic computational skills or willingness to support computer training lab setup
- Strong organizational skills and attention to deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, initiative, problem-solving attitude
- Willingness to learn and assume responsibilities
- Open-minded, friendly, and collaborative mindset
- Team-player
- Excellent professional fluency in English
- Advanced computational data analysis experience
- Good level in German would be advantageous
- Previous experience with e-learning or learning management systems
- Experience with project management tools for progress tracking
Tasks
- Collaborate with course organizers to plan wet lab and computer training practicals
- Prepare protocol booklets
- Assess practicality and logistics of course activities
- Facilitate smooth lab activities with course organizers, trainers, and tutors
- Support supplier relationships
- Coordinate delivery, installation, and uninstallation of training equipment and reagents
- Negotiate in-kind sponsorship with companies
- Coordinate with IT team for computational practicals and courses
- Coordinate with Core Facilities for equipment access and training
- Assist course organizers and trainers with pre-course work and content management
- Ensure participants have access to necessary materials via EMBLeCampus
- Manage inventory and equipment in the training lab
- Ensure supplies are well-stocked and equipment is in optimal condition
- Adhere to access guidelines, booking procedures, and safety protocols
- Implement and advance sustainability measures in the training lab
- Monitor and plan the training lab budget
- Provide ad-hoc support to senior team members
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, sponsors, and co-trainers
- Foster positive working relationships with EMBL staff
