Scientific Electronics Engineer(m/w/x)
Designing low-voltage electronics and integrating microcontrollers/FPGAs for fusion energy systems. Strong Python and GUI development skills required. Public transport reimbursement, fitness club access.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or related field
- Practical experience with low-voltage electronics, microcontrollers, FPGA, embedded systems
- Knowledge of PCB design tools (schematic capture, layout, DFM)
- Strong Python skills (including OOP) and GUI development (PyQt or similar)
- Experience with Tango Controls, Taranta or similar scientific control frameworks
- Familiarity with electrical documentation tools (EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical or similar)
- Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, harness drawings
- Knowledge of IEC standards for low-voltage systems (IEC 61131, 61010, 61508/61511)
- Experience with version control systems (Git, Azure DevOps) and collaborative development
- Excellent communication, structured working style, problem-solving ability
- Flexibility, adaptability, willingness to travel
- Previous experience in scientific facilities or high-tech industries
- Fluent German (plus, not mandatory)
- Knowledge of PLCs or multi-axis stepper motor controllers
- Understanding of laser, optics or nuclear physics principles
- Experience with CAD/PDM systems (Inventor, Vault or similar)
Tasks
- Design and develop low-voltage electronics
- Integrate microcontrollers and FPGA systems
- Create GUIs and software tools for control
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers
- Program user interfaces using PyQt
- Ensure seamless device-software communication
- Monitor and process TTL signals
- Reduce noise and verify signal integrity
- Work with sensors and data acquisition systems
- Assemble and install electronics systems
- Commission data acquisition and control systems
- Write clear and detailed documentation
- Contribute to quality management
- Establish engineering best practices
- Provide hands-on support during setups
- Support experimental campaigns
