Requirements
- MSc degree with excellent grades in quantitative field or biology/environmental sciences/epidemiology with quantitative training
- Strong analytical skills for developing mathematical/statistical methods
- Strong programming skills for implementing methods
- Experience in R, Python, Stan, HPC environments, and Git is an advantage
- Interest in Bayesian statistics, modelling, resistance evolution, and public health
- Prior experience in Bayesian data analysis, spatial statistics, evolutionary biology, computational biology, disease modelling, environmental modelling, analysis of genetic/genomic data, or quantitative genetics is ideal
- Independent and collaborative work management
- Effective planning, documentation, and communication of work
- Effective communication of research in spoken and written English
Tasks
- Drive PhD project on insecticide resistance spread and impact
- Develop mechanistic, spatially explicit models using Bayesian statistics
- Implement models with state-of-the-art programming practices
- Calibrate models to available data
- Integrate models with epidemiological simulation platform
- Evaluate resistance-management strategies to maintain insecticide effectiveness
- Collaborate with statisticians, machine-learning researchers, entomologists, and disease modellers
- Communicate research through peer-reviewed publications
- Present research at conferences and workshops
- Participate in regular meetings with collaborators
