Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or related field
- Current enrollment in a Master’s program (EU university)
- Good academic performance
- Basic knowledge of integrated photonics and optical modulation formats
- Familiarity with coherent optical systems and RF–optical signal processing
- Hands-on experience with optical laboratory equipment and measurement techniques
- Experience with Matlab, Python, Comsol, or similar numerical tools
- Motivation, detail-orientation, and eagerness to learn
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Good written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to document and present results using Microsoft Office
Tasks
- Review literature on coherent optical modulation
- Study photonic integrated circuits
- Implement IQ modulation for CS-SSB generation
- Analyze IQ modulation schemes
- Investigate dual-sideband modulation techniques
- Characterize acousto-optic modulator performance
- Set up heterodyne measurement experiments
- Perform heterodyne measurement experiments
- Extract performance metrics from measured data
- Model systems using Matlab, Python, or Comsol
- Document research results
- Present outcomes in a Master’s thesis
