Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's in engineering, robotics, mechatronics, computer science, bioengineering, or related field
- Generalist maker with interest in building, disassembling, and troubleshooting software, electronics, and mechanics
- Self-starter, proactive and independent
- Solid software skills: Python, driver development, code structure, API integration, Git, debugging
- AI-native, proficient with coding agents like Claude Code for faster software development
- Organized and reliable with good note-taking habits
- Genuine interest in biology and its application in robotics experiments
- Bonus: Maker/hacker experience (3D printing, CAD, electronics, soldering, microcontrollers, machining, robotics, lab automation)
- Bonus: Open-source project contribution (PyLabRobot, PyHamilton, Opentrons, etc.)
Tasks
- Build and run automated liquid-handling protocols
- Support work-cell operation and maintenance
- Load runs, swap consumables, calibrate instruments
- Troubleshoot jams and misreads
- Write Python software for instrument control
- Develop integrations and tooling for LabOS
- Reverse-engineer instrument communication
- Capture traffic with Wireshark or USB/serial sniffer
- Test new protocols and instruments
- Record and flag anomalies
- Document protocols and work-cell layouts
- Organize the work cell
- Prep plates and reagents for automated runs
