- Experience with electronics, microcontrollers, 3D printing, CAD, or fabrication (advantageous)
- Debugging instinct
- Ability to reason across software, firmware, electronics, and mechanics for debugging
- Excitement about robots running real experiments
Tasks
- Control lab instruments programmatically in Python
- Integrate liquid handlers, robot arms, and other devices
- Build and maintain work cells for unattended operation
- Reverse-engineer instrument control protocols
- Develop drivers for new instruments
- Write software integrations and services
- Collaborate with biologists to automate assays
- Diagnose and fix mechanical, electrical, and software issues
- Improve throughput and reliability
- Enhance error recovery and scheduling
- Ensure robust hardware performance
