Requirements

  • Master’s degree, diploma, or PhD in technical/scientific study with long-term practical experience
  • German or European Patent Attorney, or Attorney-at-Law with patent litigation experience
  • Advanced IP strategy, portfolio management experience in high-tech/medical industries
  • Profound knowledge of German/European IP laws (patent, trademark, copyright)
  • Proven experience in IP strategy development and execution, portfolio management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, decision-making skills; precise, structured work manner
  • Fluent written and spoken business German and English

Tasks

  • Collaborate with R&D, marketing, business development, and procurement teams
  • Work with legal, patent, and trademark teams globally
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes
  • Manage and expand the IP portfolio
  • Mitigate IP risks
  • Develop and implement comprehensive IP strategies
  • Support new business goals in technology and medically regulated fields
  • Conduct prior art searches
  • Draft notifications of inventions and industrial designs
  • Assist in drafting and prosecuting patent and design patent applications
  • Advise management and technical experts on IP protection
  • Ensure alignment with strategic business objectives
  • Support trademarks and copyright, especially software-related matters
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate and invalidity searches
  • Identify potential IP risks
  • Develop mitigation strategies
  • Prepare and initiate invalidation actions
  • Draft foreign patent attorney’s invalidity opinions
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations
  • Identify third parties infringing ZEISS IP rights
  • Initiate and lead enforcement activities worldwide
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare templates for board decision-making
  • Collaborate with the Head of Strategic IP Coordination & IP Management
  • Provide training on IP best practices, policies, and procedures
