Flight Dynamics Engineer - Orbit Determination for interplanetary missions(m/w/x)
Orbit determination for interplanetary missions at ESA's European Operations Control Centre. University degree in STEM and strong numerical methods skills required. Hybrid working, support for ESA Science missions.
Requirements
- University degree in engineering, astronomy, mathematics, or physics
- Very good linear algebra skills for geometry problem solving
- Skills in numerical methods for equations, integration, approximation, interpolation, optimisation, and linear algebra
- Proficiency in classical mechanics (kinematics, dynamics, conservation laws, gravity, orbits)
- Ability to apply knowledge to develop technical solutions with customers and specialists
- Very good C++ programming and object-oriented design skills
- Experience in scripting languages (e.g., Python)
- Experience in Linux operating system
- Desire to extend technical skills
- High sense of operational responsibility and good communication skills
- Fluency in English (speech and writing)
- Familiarity with ESOC environment
- Previous operational experience in Flight Dynamics or spacecraft missions
- Familiarity with modern software development tools (git, CI/CD, CMake, Docker)
- Ability to multi-task efficiently across activities, subsystems, and missions
- Knowledge about current and planned ESA missions
Tasks
- Support Orbit Determination for interplanetary missions
- Prepare and execute operations for future ESA Science missions
- Provide operations support for ongoing Science missions
- Assist other projects, scientists, and industry
- Participate in reviews
- Coordinate with other service providers in operations and other fields
