Orbit determination for interplanetary missions at ESA's European Operations Control Centre. University degree in STEM and strong numerical methods skills required. Hybrid working, support for ESA Science missions.

Requirements

  • University degree in engineering, astronomy, mathematics, or physics
  • Very good linear algebra skills for geometry problem solving
  • Skills in numerical methods for equations, integration, approximation, interpolation, optimisation, and linear algebra
  • Proficiency in classical mechanics (kinematics, dynamics, conservation laws, gravity, orbits)
  • Ability to apply knowledge to develop technical solutions with customers and specialists
  • Very good C++ programming and object-oriented design skills
  • Experience in scripting languages (e.g., Python)
  • Experience in Linux operating system
  • Desire to extend technical skills
  • High sense of operational responsibility and good communication skills
  • Fluency in English (speech and writing)
  • Familiarity with ESOC environment
  • Previous operational experience in Flight Dynamics or spacecraft missions
  • Familiarity with modern software development tools (git, CI/CD, CMake, Docker)
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently across activities, subsystems, and missions
  • Knowledge about current and planned ESA missions

Tasks

  • Support Orbit Determination for interplanetary missions
  • Prepare and execute operations for future ESA Science missions
  • Provide operations support for ongoing Science missions
  • Assist other projects, scientists, and industry
  • Participate in reviews
  • Coordinate with other service providers in operations and other fields
