Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years professional experience in software development for astronomy-related projects, preferably in data flow systems or data reduction pipelines
  • Experience with ESO DFS software stack (EDPS, EsoRex, CPL)
  • PhD / Doctoral Degree in astronomy, physics, or equivalent professional expertise
  • Solid knowledge of software engineering methods, network/system administration, and version control systems
  • Hands-on experience with testing, verification, and documentation of complex software systems for telescope instrumentation projects
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)
  • Knowledge of German (asset)
  • Strong opinions on good software practices
  • Independent, structured, and solution-oriented working style
  • Thrives in collaborative, international teams
  • Enjoyment of tackling technical challenges in dynamic environments
  • Team player
  • Good social and communicative skills

Tasks

  • Implement software for ELT instruments from design documents.
  • Define network infrastructure for AIT connectivity.
  • Install network infrastructure for AIT connectivity.
  • Maintain network infrastructure for AIT connectivity.
  • Collaborate with MICADO and METIS consortia teams.
  • Test and verify software and operational use cases.
  • Update and document software and operational use cases.
  • Solve technical IT challenges during AIT and deployment.
  • Ensure software meets ESO requirements with scientists.
  • Hold courses independently per collective agreement.
