- Document technical decisions and rationales
- Manage predictable technical delivery and operational health
- Oversee the full software lifecycle across multiple teams
- Provide technical oversight and design challenge
- Enforce high engineering excellence standards
- Mandate architectural diagrams and ADRs before implementation
- Establish on-call rotations and high-fidelity playbooks
- Drive rigorous root-cause analysis for incidents
- Implement observability and monitoring for data-informed decisions
- Manage engineering onboarding and individual performance
- Represent team technical interests and manage dependencies
- Protect engineers from interruptions and context-switching
- Drive stakeholder engagement and work sequencing
- Lead planning to establish achievable milestones
- Maintain a healthy shipping cadence
- Balance short-term delivery with long-term platform health
- Manage technical debt as a financial instrument
- Collaborate with Product and Ops on cost efficiency
- Manage incidents with rapid escalation and clear communication
- Set growth milestones and lead career progression
- Communicate organizational changes and ensure team buy-in
- Advocate for engineers in promotion cycles
- Mentor the next generation of technical leadership
- Enforce a security-first and data-informed culture
- Track DORA metrics and DX objectives
- Oversee proactive vulnerability remediation
- Construct autonomous, high-leverage squads
- Remove blockers and accelerate decision-making
- Source top-tier talent and execute retention strategies
- Establish high-trust partnerships with cross-functional peers
- Resolve interpersonal conflicts to maintain inclusivity
