Safety and Controls Engineer for the CMS Experiment(m/w/x)

Requirements
- Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience
- Strong track record in design, implementation, testing, operation, and maintenance of large PLC-based SCADA systems
- Proven ability to program PLCs and develop/maintain software for PLC interfacing, monitoring, archiving, alarming, and interlocking
- Skills in evaluating environmental sensors (humidity, temperature, smoke) for long-term reliable performance in harsh environments
- Experience evaluating sensors in high magnetic and radiation fields (advantageous)
- Proven experience with industrial control software (e.g. WinCC-OA) for monitoring and control
- Basic knowledge of procurement of industrial and custom devices, including liaising with companies and following up on production
- Ability to work successfully within multinational and multicultural teams (advantageous)
- Configuration and implementation of industrial data-acquisition, monitoring and control systems
- Design and implementation of safety interlock systems
- Construction, test and commissioning of electrical circuits and networks
- Testing and measurement of front-end electronics for analogue sensors and transducers
- Achieving results, seeing projects through to conclusion
- Teamwork skills, participating fully in team activities
- Flexibility, willingness to work on different projects simultaneously
- Self-management, taking initiative beyond regular tasks
- Effective communication, expressing opinions and ideas logically and structured
- Spoken and written English
- Commitment to learn French
Tasks
- Design and develop PLC-based SCADA systems for detector control and environmental safety
- Test and commission SCADA systems for the High Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL) and Tracker detectors
- Implement monitoring and feedback systems for temperature, humidity, and cooling processes
- Coordinate with a team of HGCAL CMS detector system experts for coherence and synergy
- Ensure coherence throughout procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational phases
- Finalize development, procurement, and implementation of HGCAL SEP hardware including PLCs and sensors
- Develop DCS software for control and monitoring of HGCAL hardware
- Ensure rapid issue identification by CMS Technical Shifter and HGCAL on-call personnel
- Finalize SEP and DCS for full HGCAL commissioning and operation underground
- Develop and test action matrices for HGCAL SEP at all levels
- Ensure proper documentation of SEP and DCS for integration into the central CMS system
