Requirements

  • Experience with gaseous particle detectors (e.g. MPGDs, RPCs, TPCs, drift chambers)
  • Experience in detector modelling and simulation
  • Experience with detector physics processes (e.g. electron transport, gas amplification, signal induction)
  • Experience in software development and scientific computing
  • Experience in gas-mixture studies and detector-performance optimisation
  • Experience with data analysis and experimental validation
  • Experience in collaborative detector R&D environments
  • Strong modelling and simulation skills
  • Scientific programming and data-analysis skills
  • Ability to evaluate and optimise detector performance
  • Research, problem-solving, and innovation skills
  • Good communication and collaboration skills
  • Spoken and written English or French, with commitment to learn basics of other language
  • National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
  • Professional background in Applied Physics, Engineering, or related field
  • Master's degree with 2 to 6 years post-graduation professional experience
  • Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before

Tasks

  • Support Garfield++ framework development and maintenance
  • Integrate novel technological approaches in simulation tools
  • Develop methodologies for gas mixture selection and characterisation
  • Optimise detector gas mixtures and predict performance trends
  • Support experimental validation with data and measurements
  • Collaborate with CERN detector technology developers
  • Coordinate DRD1 Collaboration efforts for CERN R&D
  • Enhance understanding of detector mechanisms
  • Guide detector optimisation and performance improvement
  • Upgrade simulation tools for new challenges and requirements
  • Supervise team members
