Working Student Mechanical Design Engineer – Propulsion Battery System(m/w/x)
Designing enclosure components and structural elements for electric microliner battery packs. CAD software experience (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX) required. Flexible working hours, subsidized lunch.
Requirements
- Study in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related discipline
- Strong interest in mechanical design, battery systems, and aerospace hardware development
- Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX, or similar)
- Basic understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering drawings, and integrated mechanical assemblies
- Basic FEA tool experience (Abaqus, Ansys, COMSOL, or similar) is beneficial
- Familiarity with materials and processes (metals, composites, joining, additive manufacturing, sealing)
- Interest in prototyping, manufacturing, and testing
- Structured, independent working style, problem-solving skills, attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary engineering environment
- Fluent English language skills
- German language skills are beneficial
Tasks
- Support mechanical design of battery pack hardware
- Design enclosure components and structural elements
- Develop internal supports and retention features
- Design mounting and service features
- Create and update 3D CAD models
- Generate part drawings
- Prepare design documentation for battery pack components
- Support integration of electrical hardware
- Design connector mounting and harness support features
- Develop routing provisions and installation details
- Assist in developing thermal runaway mitigation hardware
- Design venting concepts and ducting solutions
- Develop mechanically integrated thermal safety features
- Support materials selection and evaluation
- Evaluate metals and composites
- Assess joining methods and sealing technologies
- Review manufacturing approaches
- Conduct engineering analyses for design support
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Conduct basic structural studies
- Perform basic thermomechanical studies
- Participate in prototype builds
- Prepare test articles
- Assist in assembly activities
- Support development testing
- Coordinate with internal teams on design activities
- Coordinate with suppliers on fabrication
- Coordinate with manufacturers on fabrication
- Coordinate with testing partners on test activities
- Document design iterations
- Record test observations
- Report engineering results for hardware development
