Staff Platform Engineer(m/w/x)
Developing real-time Linux distributions for autonomous ground handling systems. 10+ years embedded platform development and technical leadership required. Work on multi-year roadmap for platform evolution.
Requirements
- 10+ years developing Linux-based embedded/robotics platforms
- Platform built from 0→1 at robotics/AV company, scaled order of magnitude
- Technical leadership across teams without direct reports
- Experience growing senior engineers and raising engineering standards
- Expert-level C++ (≥C++17) and strong Python
- Shipping real-time, safety-critical systems (Avionics, AV/ADAS)
- Deep knowledge of IPC middlewares and techniques on Linux/POSIX
- Expert-level real-time performance tuning and profiling
- Experience with Git, Docker/OCI containers, CI/CD patterns
- Fluency with common vehicle buses and protocols (USB, Ethernet/TSN, CAN, PCIe, SPI, I2C)
- Experience with functional safety workflows (ISO 26262, MISRA, SOTIF)
- Experience with Nvidia Orin/Thor platforms and heterogeneous compute scheduling
- Prior work on autonomous vehicles, drones, or safety-critical robotic systems
- Experience with ptp4l and TSN configurations
- Experience with v4l2 / gstreamer
- Experience with QNX or other RTOS
- Deep knowledge of Linux/Yocto systems (package management, systemd, networking, kernel config)
- Familiarity with GPU acceleration frameworks (CUDA, Vulkan)
- Open-source contributions to relevant projects or equivalent public technical work
- Comfort in fast-paced startup environment and supporting field deployments
Tasks
- Drive technical direction and long-term architecture
- Ensure reliability, performance, scalability, and safety
- Set multi-year roadmap for platform evolution
- Develop Ubuntu/Yocto/Linux distributions for real-time workloads
- Make build-vs-buy and architecture decisions
- Define strategy for ROS 2 IPC middleware
- Develop user-space drivers for various vehicle interfaces
- Set standards for adding new hardware
- Own functional safety and security strategy
- Define observability contract for the platform
- Collaborate on cross-stack performance budgets
- Set standards for platform development, testing, and release
- Contribute to technical hiring and calibration
- Represent AeroVect in vendor relationships
- Provide on-call support for platform components
- Identify and reduce strategic technical debt
