- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Statistics, or related quantitative field
- Solid background in machine learning, statistics, and/or mathematics
- Strong programming skills in Python
- Proficiency in PyTorch, JAX, or similar deep learning framework
- Early research track record (thesis, open-source, papers)
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Intrinsic motivation and curiosity
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience training/fine-tuning large-scale models
- Familiarity with cluster computing environments (SLURM)
- Familiarity with Linux-based workflows
- Prior research lab experience (publications, open-source)
- Teaching experience
Tasks
- Develop machine learning methods for data-centric AI
- Curate and preserve privacy in large foundation models
- Explore multi-agent systems and their dynamics
- Focus on mechanistic interpretability in explainable AI
- Invent and evaluate novel algorithms
- Aim for theoretical guarantees with structured and unstructured data
- Pursue and complete a PhD thesis within 4 years
- Join the Vienna Doctoral School of Computer Science
- Conclude a doctoral thesis agreement within 12 months
- Present research at top-tier international conferences
- Assist in organizing international meetings and conferences
- Support the research group with administrative tasks
- Hold courses and examinations independently
- Co-supervise students according to collective bargaining agreement
