- Degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Deep hands-on experience with Zemax (OpticStudio) or comparable optical design tools
- Strong understanding of classical optics and laser physics
- Comfortable moving between modeling and lab environments
- Rigor in designs and attention to accuracy and documentation
- Effective communication with scientists, engineers, and technicians
- Experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar tools for analysis
- Familiarity with cleanroom practices and vacuum-compatible optical design
Tasks
- Design and optimize complex optical systems for high-energy laser applications
- Use optical modeling tools for ray tracing and tolerance analysis
- Define optical specifications including materials and tolerances
- Collaborate with technicians and engineers during system assembly and testing
- Identify and resolve performance limitations in optical systems
- Produce technical documentation and design reviews
- Work across disciplines to integrate optical designs into larger systems
