Development Engineer - PEM Electrolysis(m/w/x)
Developing and analyzing membranes/CCMs for electrolysis cells, performing mechanical simulations for global GHG reduction. Several years experience in polymer/composite characterization, ideally in fuel cells or water electrolysis, preferred. Daily lunch allowance, flexible work arrangements.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in materials science, mechanical engineering, physics, chemical engineering, or related field
- Several years of experience in characterization of polymers and composite materials, ideally in fuel cells or water electrolysis
- Solid knowledge of ion-conducting polymers, ideally perfluorinated membranes
- Confident handling of mechanical analyses, including material behavior modeling or FEM-based approaches
- Independent, structured working style and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration in PEM electrolysis
- Good understanding of electrochemical systems, particularly PEM water electrolysis
- Very good written and spoken English skills; German language skills are nice to have
Tasks
- Develop and analyze membranes and CCMs for PEM electrolysis cells
- Execute and enhance characterization methods
- Plan and conduct experimental test series
- Perform mechanical simulations and evaluate data
- Derive actionable recommendations from test results
- Assess new membrane materials and collaborate with suppliers
- Support material qualification for existing and new products
- Document results and prepare technical reports
- Present findings within an interdisciplinary team
- Collaborate closely with stack development, quality, and production teams
