- Investigate suspected attacks
- Manage security incidents
- Use forensics where appropriate
- Maintain knowledge in specialisms
- Provide specific advice on applying specialisms to organizational planning and operations
- Identify the boundaries of specialist knowledge
- Collaborate with other specialists
- Build and refine research ideas
- Evaluate, develop, demonstrate, and implement research
- Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data using standard methods
- Create research reports communicating methodology, findings, and conclusions
- Contribute publication-quality material
- Update knowledge of relevant fields using available resources

- Participate in research communities
