Senior Expert – Digital Materials Development(m/w/x)
Accelerating computer-aided material and process design for nonferrous metals in E-mobility and energy transmission. PhD in Computational Materials Science or Physics required, postdoc experience a plus. Cross-functional collaboration with research institutions.
Anforderungen
- PhD/Doctorate in Computational Materials Science Engineering, Physics, Materials Science/Engineering, Metallurgy/Solid State Physics, Thermodynamics, or comparable field
- Postdoc experience, international research programs, or junior professorships (advantageous)
- Solid experience in digital materials and process development
- Experience in material models
- Experience in hybrid modeling (physical + data-driven)
- Application of machine learning (ML) or neural networks (AI)
- Knowledge of nonferrous metals (Cu/Ti/Al) and metallurgical processes (advantageous)
- Proficiency in Python
- Proficiency in SQL databases
- Proficiency in high-performance computing (HPC)
- Ability to develop and maintain structured material and process databases
- Familiarity with interfaces (APIs)
- Familiarity with materials databases
- Familiarity with CAE software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL)
- Familiarity with domain-specific ontologies (OWL/RDF)
- Ability to combine data-driven approaches with experimental validation
- Experience in experimental planning
- Experience in algorithm development
- Experience in data integration
- Experience in statistical analysis of complex datasets
- Ability to collaborate closely with colleagues from multiple disciplines
- Contribution to project success in cutting-edge research
- Fluency in English
- Professional German language skills
- Willingness to travel internationally (particularly to USA)

- Shape the future of digital materials development
- Accelerate computer-aided material and process design (ICME)
- Leverage cutting-edge technologies
- Act as a central interface between Materials & Processes, Data & Simulation, and external research institutions
- Create and optimize concepts for model- and data-driven materials development in nonferrous metals (Cu, Ti, Al)
- Assess potential for production and R&D
- Lead or co-lead internal and external projects
- Maintain technical exchanges with universities, research institutions, and partners
- Manage alliances within consortia or collaborations
- Systematically model structure-property relationships (microstructure, mechanical, technological properties, damage mechanisms)
- Develop hybrid models (physical + data-driven)
- Leverage ML and AI to optimize materials and processes
- Build interfaces between data sources, models, and production systems
- Integrate data into scalable pipelines
- Connect experimental results with simulations
- Plan and coordinate data acquisition from manufacturing and laboratory environments
- Analyze acquired data
- Use data for model validation, algorithm development, and process optimization
- Track global technology trends
- Identify opportunities and synergies for digital materials development
- Translate trends into strategic recommendations for R&D
