Applied Physicist - Future Superconducting Detector Magnets(m/w/x)

Anforderungen
- Background in superconductivity and superconducting technologies
- Experience with superconducting magnet design and superconductor studies
- Knowledge of materials science and characterisation techniques
- Familiarity with experimental physics and cryogenic systems
- Experience with analytical and finite-element analysis methods
- Finite element analysis skills using Ansys and COMSOL
- Conduct experimental superconductivity campaigns, including cryogenic handling, operation of superconducting magnets, preparation of experimental setups, and execution of measurement techniques
- Knowledge of superconducting conductor technologies, mechanical properties, and microstructural/morphological characterisation
- Effective collaboration in multidisciplinary team environments
- Independent work and autonomous task management
- Ability to present and document study outcomes
- Ability to supervise students or junior contributors
- Spoken and written English, with commitment to learn French
- National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
- Professional background in Applied Physics or related field
- Master's degree with 2 to 6 years post-graduation professional experience
- Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before
- Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions
- Obtain medical clearance before contract offer confirmation
Aufgaben
- Conduct conceptual studies of superconducting detector magnets
- Perform finite-element analyses of magnet windings
- Evaluate cold mass geometry and thermal behavior
- Design cryogenic cooling systems
- Assess mechanical performance of magnet components
- Support design and optimization of superconducting magnet systems
- Participate in R&D of low- and high-temperature superconductors
- Assist with conductor prototyping and manufacturing
- Conduct experimental testing campaigns
- Characterize conductor samples for superconducting properties
- Evaluate thermal, electrical, and mechanical properties of conductors
- Supervise team members
